Lianne Burton, Surveyors Co-Ordinator

In the first of our ‘Staff Insights’ blogs we spoke to Lianne about her role and what it means to her, and asked her to share some insights too!

Q: Where are you based?

In Manchester, I’m home based.

Q: How long have you been with the company?

I’ve been with the company for four and a half years now.

Q: How would you describe your role/function within the business?

I organise surveyor site visits on a day to day basis and ensure their operational status is up to date. This ranges from new survey bookings, revisits, final programme visits, populating the paperwork they need to conduct their surveys along with any additional info the clients have supplied. I have to ensure we have enough cover over our busy periods and where needed liaise with our sub-contractors.

Any issues onsite on the day I am also involved in, helping to resolve them, along with any vehicle maintenance which includes regular oil checks and service as well as dealing quickly with any breakdowns. I am responsible for ensuring the surveyors have completed their monthly van checks, and that their Loler certificates and equipment calibrations are all up to date.

I also work closely alongside the Excavation team and Operations team, helping out where required to suit the client’s needs. Sometimes this will involve me having to the book Area Technician visits in our internal booking system. I also arrange and book hotels and ferry trips for the teams when they work away.

Q: Who would play your role if it was to be made into a blockbuster film?

Poirot, there is a lot I have to investigate… it needs an eye for detail!

Q: What are your ‘super-powers’?

Being me – often involves being a bit clairvoyant!

Q: Are you a Tea or coffee person?

Neither….Hot Choc (or the occasional Vodka)

Q: If you had to choose one thing from the list below that is most important to your role, which of these would you choose?

G. Always teamwork from the start of the process to the end. If you have the right team the customer service will naturally be in place.

A. Delivering great customer service

B. Dodging the rain

C. Bio-security measures

D. Making someone smile

E. Ending the day with a smile

F. A tidy van

G. Teamwork!

Q: Do you have any interesting facts about your job or odd/humorous things that have happened whilst working that you’d like to share?

Where to start!! There have been so many humorous things over the years mainly with the surveyors, one who locked himself in a house, and on another site visit he had been surveying an open field where he was floored by a charging pack of dogs. I did send our Specialist Advisory Manager (Darren) to an address once and the police turned up and he almost got arrested. And finally, Richard (another one of our surveyors) once crossed a ditch and ended up stuck knee deep in mud – heaven knows how he got out, but they always do.

It’s never a dull day, and in my job I have to think on my feet.

“Thanks Lianne for giving us an insight into your role as a Surveyors Co-Ordinator”
