Amenity Team Expands

Amenity weed management team expands to meet demand

Controlling weed growth in urban areas, roads and highways is a major concern for local authorities, and needs regular management on sports pitches and leisure facilities too. Weed growth can not only be unsightly but can reduce amenity access in open spaces and cause safety risks in areas used by the public.

As our Amenity Weed Management service grows, we’ve been investing in not just the best staff, but the most efficient equipment including bespoke built quad bikes designed by in-house expert Darren Greatbatch.

We have the kit

Our new quads have been built to ensure efficacy of herbicide usage, increase productivity and ultimately deliver a better service for our clients. So far we’ve saved nearly 60% herbicide usage for one large local authority in the South. Built to the highest specification with unique functions that deliver herbicide only where it’s needed.

We have the expertise

With over 24 years working with councils and boroughs across the country, Darren Greatbatch, our Specialist Advisory Manager (Amenity & Invasive Weeds) leads and trains our experienced team. This month we welcome Mark Bristow as Amenity Team Leader, and Dean Hudson as Amenity Technician. He joins Tony Paterson, our other Amenity Technician. All team members are trained on working safely within public spaces – something so important we felt compelled to create our own Public Safety statement.

Darren Greatbatch, Specialist Advisory Manager (Invasive & Amenity Weeds) has worked in amenity and invasive weeds for over 20 years, he conducts invasive weed surveys, provides herbicide recommendations and consultation on invasive weed treatment programmes. Darren is a BASIS certified crop advisor in Invasive and Injurious weeds and Hard surfaces, and a member of the Amenity Forum. Having built a strong relationship with many councils he is highly renowned as one of the industry’s experts. Darren’s knowledge of invasive land and aquatic weeds is shared via our training services.
