Buddleia is a fast-growing, medium to large perennial shrub with long arching branches. The lilac/purple and sometimes white flowers occur in dense pyramidal-shaped panicles, which produce large quantities of nectar. The opposite leaves are deep green, long and wider in the middle, with a white velvety surface underneath.
This hardy shrub is capable of out-competing native species by creating a thick and dense canopy of branches that blocks out sunlight. If ignored, it will take over vast areas of land and cause significant damage to the environment and to property.
