Contamination & Geotech Expo 2022
We officially launched the new brand at this year’s Expo held at NEC Birmingham 14-15th Sept, joining 149 other exhibitors – the UK’s largest event for contaminated land, air and water. This year there were 60 live seminars; expert led sessions and a plethora of demo’s across the arena, as well an impressive array of super-sized vehicles, working machinery and a few fun elements too. For anyone looking to be inspired, seek powerful networking opportunities and have the chance to speak with industry experts about their services or tech – this event is an absolute must! As the website describes:
“More than just an exhibition, the Contamination & Geotech Expo serves as a platform to accelerate the transition to a better and more environmentally friendly planet through land remediation, brownfield regeneration, air quality testing, waste and contaminated water treatment, hazardous material removal and more. Discuss critical topics, present innovative green technologies, and use the show as an international springboard to launch solutions to the world’s future challenges.”
The launch
Our team for the event were Darren Greatbatch – Specialist Advisory Manager, John Butcher – Lead Commercial Surveyor, Dave Prince – Commercial Sales Executive, and from marketing; Jennifer Holmes – Head of Marketing & Business Development and Ross Cheeseright – Marketing Executive. We were joined by Kennie Walters – Excavations Sales Executive and in-house videographer. A busy few days with plenty of visitors keen to see what the new brand was all about, and several surprised to discover that we don’t just treat Japanese knotweed. So, yes launching the new trading entity was most definitely worthwhile! As we introduced the new services to visitors it was clear that there is a lot of interest in how we deal with other invasive species and asbestos contaminated ground – and more to the point – how we do things differently.
Innovative and exciting solutions
We were delighted to be in the midst of some diverse cutting edge and innovative solutions such as asbestos analysis, bomb disposal, sewage systems and flood control (to name just a few). Outside the main building were demo’s from waste carrier/removal vehicles, and after some fresh air and a stretch of legs was had, a welcome rest could be had listening to keynote speakers discussing a wide variety of topics including energy efficiency, land remediation, clean air and hazardous materials – all of which were well attended.
Environmental focus
The key take-out for us was how businesses/products/services were focused on limiting environmental impact – be that in it’s operations, delivery, infrastructure or the outcomes, protecting our planet was the theme of the day, and quite rightly so! This included companies that had pioneered products or services that:
- Provide services that also enhance bio-diversity
- Use alternative methods of contamination control
- Offer greener solutions to waste management
A glimpse of the future
The expo didn’t just offer information on existing solutions either. We had some very interesting discussions with exhibitors and visitors who were looking forward into the future. With the pace of change due to global warming and an ever-shifting geopolitical landscape, businesses will need to be ready to evolve and adapt fast. The expo gave us a glimpse of some new and potential remediation solutions that we hope to be able to discuss in the coming months.
Darren Greatbatch comments: “It was a fantastic two days at the show, loved the excitement about the new brand from people who visited the stand, and talking about what we will be achieving in the future now that we have this environmental arm of the business.
Through Environment Controls we can help businesses take control of invasive species, aquatic and amenity weeds with an integrated approach that protects the ecosystems we work in, and provides our clients with an alternative, cost effective solution.
We spoke to several people from the construction sector who were keen to explore our contaminated ground removal services, so the future is looking very bright for JKL and EC, plus these pocket sized ID swatch cards went down a storm!”
