Residential Bamboo Excavation Project

PROJECT EXAMPLE: INVASIVE BAMBOO REMOVED FROM RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY

On this contract we tackled an ornamental Bamboo that had become a problem. This hedge required full excavation not just of Bamboo but Cotoneaster as well, all whilst protecting the client’s residential grounds.

THE PROJECT

Bamboo had caused damage to the sleepers creating the ornamental bed. We completed excavation of all parts of the Bamboo plant and invading Cotoneaster within the Bamboo ornamental area.

KEY CONSIDERATIONS

Being a residential property with landscaped gardens and other ornamental features the team worked to protect and respect the homeowner’s garden at all times. Additionally, with a large area of lawn to consider, the area to be excavated was minimalised as much as possible.

REMEDIATION AND REMOVAL

We cut and removed all aerial growth and dug out the Bamboo rhizome/root mass underlying the main culm group growth areas. We then carried out a ‘dig & sift’ exercise through the surrounding soils to find and extract the plant’s underground running stems/rhizomes which were growing under the previous decking area and within the lawn. The client to arranged their own haulage.

A SUCCESSFUL OUTCOME

Whilst all parts of the Bamboo plant were removed we still put a monitoring programme in place for two years in case of any regrowth, which can then be treated. Using a sifting method reduced the volume of waste soils to be removed offsite.
